A Journey in Memory
I walked today in memory
And drifted back through the years,
I saw the laughing eyes of the young man
And I felt the sting of tears.
I saw the sunset on the water
As we strolled on the summer sands.
I felt him very close to me
As he reached for and took my hands.
I remember his kiss in the sunlight
For all the world to see
My heart still leaps when it recalls the words
When he said that he loved me.
I travelled on and the days moved fast
And I soon saw the years rolled by,
Children and meals and family
And I saw the days when I would cry.
Oh how sweet it would be for me
If could have my dearest wish
And travel back to the summer place
Where we still laugh and wish.
