 AN EMPTY SPACE
He told me he was a shadow
Of the man he used to be ~
He had no need to tell me
I could already see.
I told him it was better
To cast a shadow still,
Than to leave an empty space
That no one else could fill.
He told me it frustrated him
The things he could not do,
I told him that I understood
And turned away my view.
The sun was high – the tide was full~
Time for him to leave this place.
He no longer casts a shadow~
There is an empty space.
